About

My name is Toos Omtzigt, and Tulipheart Studio is my creative home. As a Dutch transplant to the north, I’ve lived in rural Alaska and Yukon for over 30 years and I love working with wool. It started about 16 years ago when my husband and I began breeding a flock of Icelandic sheep on our farm. Sheering and processing fleece was something I really enjoyed and soon I began spinning the wool into yarn, then crocheting hats and rugs, and things just snowballed from there.

Now I explore the beauty of wool mostly through wet felting and mixed media. My main focus is 2-dimensional felted landscapes, but I also enjoy making 3-dimensional items like hats, satchels, flowers, and vases. A lot of the fun comes from incorporating other materials into my pieces, like plant fibres, silk, driftwood, and paper, as well as working with dyes, but almost all of my work is anchored in a foundation of felt.

Recently, I have started offering felting workshops and I enjoy creating commissioned pieces for customers on request — let me know if there’s something I can create for you.
